Kroz upečatljiv spoj opere, dramske igre, kamerne muzike i elektronike, priču o Jacinti donose sopran Olivera Tičević, glumica Dubravka Drakić, dječji glas Sofije Ivanović i Ansambl Boka. Smjenjujući prošlost i sadašnjost, san i javu, Ostrvo prerasta u snažnu muzičko-scensku ispovijest o ljubavi, gubitku i istrajnosti, ostavljajući publici duboko emotivno i autentično umjetničko iskustvo.

Pokrovitelji festivala su Ministarstvo kulture i medija i Opština Kotor. In the authentic setting of the Church of St. Duha in Kotor, audiences of the KotorArt International Festival will have the opportunity on 19 July to attend the performance of the chamber opera Island, an original work by composer Irena Popović for three female voices, chamber ensemble and electronics. This program is part of the programme of the 25th anniversary edition of the KotorArt International Festival, celebrating a quarter century of artistic
excellence.

Inspired by one of the most poignant legends of the Bay of Kotor, the opera tells the story of Jacinta Kunić from Perast, who spent twenty-five years embroidering a tapestry while waiting for her husband to return from the sea. Using damask, pearls of various colours, and strands of her own hair, Jacinta wove a symbol of unconditional love and devotion. According to legend, she lost her sight before ever witnessing his return.

Through a powerful fusion of opera, dramatic performance, chamber music and electronics, the story of Jacinta is brought to life by soprano Olivera Tičević, actress Dubravka Drakić, the child voice of Sofija Ivanović, and the Boka Ensemble. Moving between past and present, dream and reality, Island unfolds as a deeply emotional musical and theatrical testimony to love, loss and endurance, offering the audience an intimate and profoundly moving artistic experience.

The International KotorArt Festival stands out for its artistic excellence and unique program concepts and has been proclaimed a festival of special importance for the culture of Montenegro by the Government of Montenegro. The festival is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Media and the Municipality of Kotor. For more than two decades, KotorArt has significantly enriched the cultural and tourist offer, supported by a wide network of
local, national, and international partners in the fields of culture and tourism. The festival’s quality and significance are further confirmed by UNESCO patronage, the support of the European Union, the Western Balkans Fund, the Open Society Foundations, the Wild Beauty Award for Best Event, the EFFE Label awarded by the European Festivals Association, as well as long-standing cooperation with prominent companies and organizations.
